Spring 2014 Luxe Box Review

with one comment

I got this in the mail last week but with family over, I couldn’t open it until now. I decided not to cancel yet so I could see if Luxe Box could recover from their last disastrous box (you can read about that here). Although this box is better than before, I feel it’s still not up to par with what they used to offer. Anyways, take a look and see for yourself.

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - contents
The Spring 2014 Luxe Box

Now let’s look at each thing individually.

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Fekkai shampoo and conditioner
Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner

I was pretty happy to see a matching shampoo and conditioner in my box this time, not like the winter box that only gave me a shampoo. Another interesting thing is this is an American brand that I had not seen for sale in Canada before. The box included a small advertisement card that says it’s available for sale at Target.

Full size: 8 oz for $20US each
Sample size: 2 oz for $5US each (approx. $ 5.59 CAD right now)

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Teeez Head Over Heels nail lacquer
Teeez Head Over Heels nail lacquer

I had to look up this company as I had never heard of them before. Teeez is a cosmetics company based in the Netherlands. The colour I received was cadmium blush and it looks like a really pretty peach. I’m excited to try this shade for spring.

Full size: I had trouble finding this as it doesn’t seem to be listed anywhere online. So comparing this to their current nail lacquer (8.5 ml for £10.95), this one is 7 ml for £9.02, which approx. equals $16.65.
Sample size: This is the full size product!

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Aveeno Daily Moisturizing lotion
Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I wasn’t too impressed with seeing Aveeno in my box. If it was their face moisturizer or even a facial cleanser, I’d be more excited. But Aveeno body moisturizer is boring to me and is such a tiny sample, it’s hardly worth putting into a “Luxe” box. This will probably end up in my work bag and I’ll use it there.

Full size: 532 ml for $13.99
Sample size: 28 ml for for $0.74

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Teeez Easy On The Eyes eye pencil
Teeez Easy On The Eyes eye pencil in black deluxe

Another offering from Teeez, this is a black eye pencil eyeliner. I’m curious to see how this one goes.

Full size: 1.5 g for £10.95 (approx. $20.21)
Sample size: This is the full size!

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Knotties hair elastics
Knotties hair ties

I’m not impressed by this because I had already received this in my Summer 2013 Luxe Box. Worst part is, they don’t work all that well for my hair because I can’t loop it 3 times to go around my pony tail. Looping it twice is too loose and my hair falls out. I can’t loop it 3 times because it’s not long enough. I haven’t quite figured out what to do with these and I certainly haven’t found an alternative use for them. Now I’m stuck with 8 hair ties that are useless to me.

Full size: 5 pack for $10
Sample size: 4 pack for $8

Spring 2014 Luxe Box - Burt's Bees Brightening Dark Spot Corrector
Burt’s Bees Brightening Dark Spot Corrector

Now this sounds interesting. I’m all for trying out skin brightening products, especially that now I’m noticing some dark spots appearing on my cheeks. I don’t know if I’ll even see any kind of change since the back of the package stated that 80% of women who used it saw a diminished appearance of dark spots after 8 weeks of use. If I’m lucky, I might get a week or two out of these two packets. We’ll see how it goes.

Full size: 29.5 ml for $29.99
Sample size: 4.42 ml for $4.49 (2 packs equals $8.98)

To sum it all up…

# of sample size products = 6
# of full size products = 2
Total value of this season’s Luxe Box = $61.27

Not bad considering my last box was an abysmal $29. However, Loose Button should have done better to make sure I wouldn’t receive duplicates from previous boxes. I’ve decided to continue with my subscription in hopes that the boxes will improve. I even redid my online profile so hopefully that will help eliminate items that I don’t care to receive. I am already paying $25 per box (I have the semi-annual membership) and I don’t want to pay the extra $5-$15 for those limited edition boxes. C’mon Loose Button! Step up your game!

What did you get in your Luxe Box? Or did you pay extra for a limited edition box?

Winter 2013 Luxe Box Review

with 7 comments

Winter 2013 Luxebox - box
It’s Luxebox time!

Surprisingly, I received some mail today! That’s right, mail delivery on a sunday? Maybe because it’s getting closer to holidays? In any case, I received my Winter Luxebox today! So what could I do but anxiously open it up?

Winter 2013 Luxebox - contents
The contents

To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with this season’s box. Most of what I received were small samples and not considered a deluxe size at all. Here’s the breakdown.

Winter 2013 Luxebox - EVOLVh UltraShine Moisture Shampoo
EVOLVh UltraShine Moisture Shampoo

Never heard of this brand but am open to trying it. However, I would have appreciated it if they included the matching conditioner. I’m a shampoo and conditioner kind of gal, so only having shampoo in the box perplexes me. Now I need to use a conditioner that’s from an entirely different brand that might not even work well with this shampoo.

Full size: 250ml for $24
Sample size: 75ml for $7.20

Winter 2013 Luxebox - Keratase Elixer Ultime
Keratase Elixer Ultime

I’m pretty sure I received something really similar in a previous box, though not exactly the same. This is a hair oil that’s meant for colour-treated hair. This is something I’m positive I had indicated in my personal profile that I do NOT have. This is a completely useless product for me.

Full size: 250ml for $42
Sample size: 3ml for $0.50

Winter 2013 Luxebox - the Balm Stainiac
theBalm Stainiac

I was only introduced to theBalm from the last Luxebox so this is something I’m willing to try out. I wonder how it is compared to Benefit’s Benetint?

Full size: 0.3 oz for $17
Sample size: $2.27

Winter 2013 Luxebox - Essie nail polish - No More Film
Essie No More Film

I’m very disappointed with this as No More Film was part of Essie’s 2012 Resort Collection, which means the collection has been out for over a year now. To have this in the box now is pretty late.

Full size: 13.6ml for $11.99
Sample size: This is the full size.

Winter 2013 Luxebox - Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume mascara
Yves Rocher Sexy Pulp Ultra Volume mascara

A mini tube of mascara. I’m not too interested in mascara since I can only wear it when I wear my contacts. I’m still willing to try it out though.

Full size: 9ml for $19
Sample size: $5.28

Winter 2013 Luxebox - L'Occitane 20 percent Shea hand cream
L’Occitane 20% Shea Hand Cream

The one thing I’m really really excited to try. I’ve heard so many good things about L’Occitane’s hand creams, especially this one in particular. I can’t wait to try it out!

Full size: 150ml for $30
Sample size: $2

Winter 2013 Luxebox - Loose Button lip brush
Loose Button lip brush

I feel like these Loose Button branded brushes shouldn’t be counted as part of the 6-7 deluxe samples that each box is supposed to contain. For consumers that are as like-minded as I am, I am paying for these quarterly boxes to receive up-to-date deluxe samples that are on trend with the current season. A lip brush is not what I consider something that is “on trend”. I am treating this as a freebie throw in and not counting it in the value of the box.

Full size: No price, but I’m going to guess around $6.
Sample size: This would be considered full size.

To sum it all up…

# of sample size products = 5
# of full size products = 1
Total value of this season’s Luxe Box = $29.24

Wow Loose Button. This box was pretty much a fail. To put out a box that costs only marginally more than what I paid for when all of your other boxes have had much greater value? This is enough to seriously make me consider cancelling my subscription altogether. Even though you’re providing consumers with the option to “upgrade” their boxes by paying extra, I feel like it’s just an extra cash grab to gain more money. Part of the fun is not knowing what you’re going to get and the surprise that comes with it. However, if you’re advertising 6-7 deluxe beauty samples, then that’s what you should be providing. Never mind. Their website now says 7-8 trial sized beauty and lifestyle items. I’m remember when they made the change from monthly to seasonal, they said the extra time would allow them to curate better deluxe sized samples.

I’ll be taking some time deciding if I want to continue with my subscription or not. Hopefully all of your boxes were much better than what I received.

Fall 2013 Luxe Box Review

with 2 comments

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - box
It’s here!!

With moving from a condo to a house and having to unpack and reorganize everything, blogging took a bit of a backseat. I actually received my Luxe Box about a week ago, but didn’t have time to open it until now. Quite honestly, the moment I opened the box and took a look at its contents, I knew it was amazing and that I am going to love it.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - open box
As always, a beautiful draw string bag with a little card.

Once again, Loose Button decided to allow subscribers to pay a little extra for a curated box. This season, the featured curator is Loulou magazine’s beauty team! For an extra $7, you get the guarantee of those particular items in your box. For me, personally, in addition to thinking it’s not worth the extra $7 (you’re already paying $24-$26 per box, depending on which subscription you choose), I prefer the surprise of opening the box and finding out what’s been chosen for me.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - contents
This season’s contents in my box

From the picture above, I’m quite happy with what I received this season. I can’t wait to try it all out!

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - Klorane Dry Shampoo

Klorane Extra Gentle Dry Shampoo

Full size: 150ml for $18
Sample size: 50ml worth $6

I’ve only tried a couple of dry shampoos and I wouldn’t mind trying this one out.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - Covergirl Outlast nail gloss

Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail gloss in #310 – Grapevine

Full size: 11ml for $5.99
Sample size: This is a full size product!

This colour is beautiful for fall! I’ve never tried any of Covergirl’s nail glosses either so this will be another first.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - Barefoot Venus Mustard Bath

Barefoot Venus Therapeutic Mustard Bath

Full size: 100g for $4.99
Sample size: This is a full size product!

I’m already a fan of their hand lotion from a previous Luxe Box. This will be a neat one to try.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - Lancome Genifique

Lancôme Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate

Full size: 50ml for $125
Sample size: 8ml worth $20

I’ve been a faithful user of this since 2011. This will be a great size to keep for traveling.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - The Balm Instain

the Balm Instain in Sweet Dot

Full size: 6.5g for $22
Sample size: 0.5g worth $1.69

I’ve heard much about the Balm, but haven’t tried any of their products. This is a cute mini blush that will be great to keep in my purse for touchups during the day.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - Be a Bombshell eyeliner

Be a Bombshell Eye Liner in Onyx

Full size: 3ml for $14
Sample size: This is a full size product!

One can never have too many eyeliners, can they? First time hearing of this brand. Can’t wait to try it. Hope it’s waterproof.

Luxe Box Fall 2013 - L'Occitane Supple skin oil

L’Occitane Amande Supple Skin Oil

Full size: 100ml for $52
Sample size: 15ml worth $7.80

Curious to try this out. The smell is quite strong, and reminds me of my mom’s herbal elixirs and oils from Hong Kong.

To sum it all up…

# of sample size products = 4
# of full size products = 3
Total value of this season’s Luxe Box = $60.47

The total value of this box is the lowest I’ve ever had, which is quite unfortunate. This makes me glad that I did not pay an extra $7 for it! However, the mix of products that are included are all things I could see myself using, so that is a big plus for me.

What did you get in your box? Share with me in the comments below!

Summer 2013 Luxe Box Review

with 2 comments

The summer edition Luxe Box is here! This time around, there was an email sent to all members giving you the option to upgrade your Luxe Box to one of four limited edition Luxe Boxes:

Condition Couture – 6 items specifically for hair, including hair ties, feather extensions, and hair shadow. Cost for upgrade – free!

Fragrance – includes 6 mini perfumes, 1 body wash, and 1 body lotion samples. Cost for upgrade – free!

Loulou – a selection of 9 different beauty items picked from the editors of Loulou magazine. Cost for upgrade – $5

Wedding – a selection of 8 different beauty items specifically geared towards those who are in or attending a wedding this season. Cost for upgrade – $10

I had taken a look at the upgrade options and didn’t see anything that I really wanted to upgrade to, so I left my subscription as is and waited for the regular Luxe Box to arrive. Also, I didn’t think it was worth it to have to pay an extra amount of money just to have a guarantee of knowing what’s in my box.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - everything
Contents of this season’s Luxe Box

This was a pretty hefty box, in which I delighted in opening the beautiful silk bag to reveal the goodies inside. Let’s get to it!

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Essie Sleek Sticks

Essie Sleek Stick Nail Appliques – Embrace the Lace

Full size: $13.99
Sample: This is the full size!

Can’t wait to try these on. The design is so cute!

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Barefoot Venus Shea Butter Hand Cream

Barefoot Venus Shea Butter Hand Cream – Lychee Luxe

Full size: 60ml for $5.99
Sample: This is the full size!

I love getting samples of hand cream because they’re small enough to pop in your bag or to have it with you at work. I opened the bottle for a quick smell – mmm lychees!

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Philosophy Purity

Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 cleanser for face and eyes

Full size: 8 oz for $26
Sample: 1 oz for $3.25

Never tried a Philosophy product before so am excited to try this out.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Knotties

Full size: 5 pack for $10
Sample: 4 pack for $8

Not too impressed by this. Over-priced elastic ribbons that I can easily purchase from the local Fabricland. May or may not use them.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Colorsmash

Colorsmash Hair Shadow

Full size: 4.1g for $15
Sample: This is the full size!

A repeat from last season’s box, except this is a different colour. I’m not all that interested in hair products and have indicated it in my profile, so I’m not sure why I’m still being sent hair products.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Goldwell Style Sign Jelly Boost

Goldwell Style Sign Volume – Jelly Boost

Full size: 160ml for $16.99 (Ulta.com)
Sample: 30ml worth $3.19

Another hair product. I actually received this in my AMEX Topbox so this is a repeat for me.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Loose Button Foundation Brush

Loose Button Foundation Brush

Full size: approx $15
Sample: This is the full size!

It seems like Loose Button is starting their own brush line. There was a kabuki brush from the Winter box and now a foundation brush. I think it’d be neat if in the next box they had an eye shadow brush or a fluffy blush brush.

Luxe Box Summer 2013 - Oil of Olay CC Cream

Oil of Olay CC Cream

Full size: $22.99
Sample: This is the full size!

This was neat; a black box with only the words “Compliments of Olay”. Inside the box, was a full size bottle of their new CC cream. I’m not sure when it will start selling in Canada (I haven’t been able to spot it at any of my local drugstores yet), but if it hasn’t yet, this was a great move on Olay’s part to start marketing their products before it’s launch.

To sum it all up…

# of sample size products = 3
# of full size products = 5
Total value of this season’s Luxe Box = $87.41

Although the value isn’t as high as the previous two seasons, the contents make up for it (for me anyways).  Great job Luxe Box! Now if only you could remember to keep hair products out of my boxes next time…

Spring 2013 Luxe Box Review

with 8 comments

Look what came in the mail today! My Spring 2013 Luxe Box! Must open now.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box
Spring 2013 Luxe Box with a special Steven and Chris sleeve

For this season’s Luxe Box, they were partnered with Steven and Chris (who have their own show on CBC) to bring us 8 great deluxe beauty samples to try out. My box came a little earlier than I expected (an email was sent out telling us to expect our boxes early next week) but mine arrived before the long weekend!

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - drawstring bag and info card
Drawstring bag and info card

Like the previous box, a beautiful silky drawstring bag with the Loose Button logo houses all the products inside. A cute product card that opens up accordion style that says “Spring Trends 2013”.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - info card 1
Product card 1/4

I’d heard of Colorsmash before but wasn’t sure if it would work against my dark, black hair. Smashbox was an early love of mine, and it’d be neat to try their Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - info card 2
Product card 2/4

Ooo a spring fragrance fro Marni’s! And Lancôme’s Genifique! I LOVE Genifique and have been faithfully using it for the past 2 years. I’m going to need to do a review post on it soon. KMS Quick Blow Dry wasn’t too interesting to me since I don’t really do much with my hair. Moroccanoil’s Body Buff would be neat to try since my skin has been extra dry from winter lately. L’Occitane’s Shea Butter Hand Cream would be PERFECT for me to try since I’d been eyeing it for the past couple months but hadn’t bit the bullet to buy it yet. Mèreadesso Lip Treats could be good depending on what colour it was.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - info card 3
Product card 3/4

This box is amazing so far! Pandora’s Makeup Box mascara (because who doesn’t love a tube of mascara to try?) and even Kératase’s Bain Chroma Captive shampoo. This is a most incredible box! There’s a little blurb about Anthia’s Lounge, a new place to give feedback on your Luxe Boxes rather than filling out Google surveys.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - info card 4
Product card 4/4

Wait, what? You mean all those products listed on this card isn’t what’s in my box? Turns out the info card was not a product card which I initially thought, but information about the upcoming Spring 2013 trends. Imagine my disappointment when I actually opened the bag and found out that my samples weren’t the same ones listed on the card. Haha oops.

Spring 2013 Luxe Box - contents
The samples

Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer
Full size: 0.33 oz – $32
Sample size: 0.05 oz – $4.85
But there were 3 samples of this! Therefore value is $14.55.

Blue Lagoon Rich Nourishing Cream
Full size: 30ml – $130
Sample size: 2ml – $8.67

Blue Lagoon Silica Mud Mask
Full size: 200ml – $100
Sample size: 30ml – $15

Colorsmash Hair Shadow
Full size: 0.11oz – $15
Sample size: This was a full size sample!

KMS Free Shape quick blow dry
Full size: 200ml – $18.99 (at Ulta)
Sample size: 30ml – $2.85

Lancôme Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate
Full size: 30ml – $95
Sample size: 8ml – $25.33

Pandora’s Eyes Mascara
Full size: 10ml – $19
Sample size: This was a full size sample!

Beauty Blender-type sponge? Loose Button’s Blending Sponge
Full size: ??? No price tag listed, but let’s guess it’s around $15.
Sample size: ??? This is the full size sample!

Unfortuantely, when I logged onto my Loose Button account, the product info wasn’t updated with the Spring box contents yet. I don’t know who makes this sponge or how much it is. I’ll update this post when they do. According to the post on Anthia’s Lounge, this is Loose Button’s own makeup sponge applicator.

Total value of box: $85.40 + value of sponge $15 = $100.40

That’s a pretty good value for a box if you ask me! I’m especially excited to have the Lancôme Genifique because not only do I LOVE this product already, the size makes it great for travelling. The mascara is also great too since I’m on a hunt to find something more affordable than my beloved Chanel Inimitable Waterproof mascara. Skincare products are always welcome in my box (hooray for Blue Lagoon!) although I could pass on the hair products. Like I said earlier, once the product information is updated on Loose Button’s website, I’ll update this post with info on the sponge.

What did you get in your Spring Luxe Box?

Winter 2012 Luxe Box Review

with 2 comments

The Winter Luxe Box from Loose Button arrived mid-December and wow is it ever luxurious. I think it is their best box to date! I’m going to try a different format with this post so here we go. Let’s take a look at the goodies for this season:

Winter 2013 Luxebox

Once again, a beautiful, sleek, cream coloured box with a golden Loose Button logo embossed on it.

Inside cover of Winter 2013 Luxebox

Inside the box, a product card and a silky pouch that contains all of this season’s goodies.

Prada's Infusion D'iris Perfumed Body Lotion

Prada’s Infusion D’Iris Perfumed Body Lotion. A full size bottle (250ml) sets you back $65. That means this 100ml sample bottle is worth $26! Already the cost of one season of Luxebox. Awesome.

Eyeko Mini Skinny Brush Mascara

Eyeko’s Skinny Mini Brush Mascara. Only available as part of a duo set with the Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner for $25. So let’s say this sample is worth $12.50.

B. Kamins Vegetable Cleanser

B. Kamin’s Vegetable Cleanser. Full size (180ml) for $38. This sample size (60ml) is worth $12.

Blue Lagoon Algae Mask

Blue Lagoon’s Algae Mask. Full size (50ml) is $1oo. Sample size of 10ml is worth $20.

Keratase's Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide

Keratase’s Cristalliste Lumiere Liquide. Full size (50ml) is $42. Sample size (3ml) is worth $2.52.

Prada's Infusion D'iris Eau de Toilette

Another Prada product! This one is Infusion D’Iris Eau de Parfum. Full size (30ml) is $65. The sample size (8ml) is worth $17.33.

Essie's Leading Lady

I love getting Essie polishes in my Luxebox, especially since it’s my go-to nail polish right now. This one is Leading Lady and a full size product! Worth $9.99.

Loose Button Kabuki Brush

This is Loose Button’s Kabuki brush. I haven’t started using it yet, but it’ll be a good for my setting powder. Let’s estimate the cost to be around $10.

Number of products: 8
Estimated cost of box: $110.34!

Am I reading this right?! What an amazing value for this box! Towards the end of my monthly subscription, I was getting disappointed with the contents of my monthly boxes, not because of the value, but because the type of products I was receiving (I once had a box that contained 4 different perfume samples. Really?). I am absolutely in love with this season’s Luxe Box. The Prada Eau de Parfum smells divine and I’m excited to try Eyeko’s Skinny Mini Mascara.

If you’re a subscriber to Luxe Box, what did you get? Was your box a lot different or similar?

Fall 2012 Luxe Box Review

with 2 comments

I know this is super late. Sorry!

So you know how there was all these beauty boxes but they were only available in the US? About a year and a half ago, Luxe Box was born from the company, Loose Button, and they were only available to us Canadians. Awesome! I waited a bit to see some reviews about how people liked them, and in Nov 2011, I officially joined. Luxe Box was a monthly beauty box subscription that sees 4-5 beauty samples delivered to your door step. Month after month, I loved coming home to find a package addressed to me. It was like a Christmas gift, but every month!

However, even with the fun with monthly presents, there were some issues with the system as monthly boxes went from being delivered early to mid-month to later and later, until finally, boxes did not come to my doorstep until the very end of the month or at worst, the beginning of the following month. There were multiple emails of apologies about the delays, however it was troublesome that every subsequent month the problem still persisted.

Come May 2011, Loose Button announced a change in their beauty box subscriptions. Rather than a monthly subscription, they changed to a seasonal subscription, meaning that you would receive a quarterly Luxe Box with each change of seasons. I opted for this change to see what improvements could be made, and come mid September, I received my first Fall Luxe Box.

First of all, the box was an entirely new redesign. Instead of a black square box (where you can tell it was a flat template that is folded up), this is a cream coloured rectangular box, almost like a shoebox, but much slimmer. The box is made of a very sturdy cardboard material, with golden logos and emblems printed on the box cover and under the lid. Also, no more black shredded confetti paper lining the box! Now there is a white, silky cloth that wraps all the contents. A rather elegant touch, I have to say.

This is what I received for my Fall Luxe Box:

  • Benefit Stay Don’t Stray
  • China Glaze nail polish in Purr-fect Plum (full size)
  • Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner (full size)
  • Orlane Thermo-Active Firming Serum
  • Madonna Truth or Dare Eau de Parfum
  • Marcelle Lux Cream Eye Shadow + Liner in Enchantmint (full size)
  • Orlane Absolute Skin Recovery Care
  • Loose Button Exfoliating Pad

This was a pretty good box to me as there were 3 full size products. Also, the Orlane Absolute Skin Recovery Care wasn’t even listed in my product information card, so either it was put into my box by accident or it was another bonus.

All in all, a great start to new beginnings for Loose Button. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the Winter box!
